Nigel Project details:

Nigel is a DLA (digital life assistant). Many of you know the J.A.R.V.I.S program from the Iron Man movies? The computer that runs the house, and essentially builds the Iron Man suits for Tony Stark. Yeah Nigel is like that except he can’t build me Iron Man suits…though I’m working on that!

Right now Nigel is a bunch of AppleScripts and Python scripts to do certain tasks on my computers. Using Dragon Dictate as a voice command system, I can tell my computer to do certain things – like “Nigel twitter update” and he’ll ask “What would you like to say to the world” in this very proper british voice. Currently Nigel can tell me movies that are playing near me, update my social media sites, and even read me my incoming e-mail. While I don’t have much time to sit and really work on the project, whenever I have a free moment I try to get some coding in.
